Information - Review by Bjoernebye
here's my gibberish, not much of a slating really. i didn't know what to expect, i didn't know the style, the influences... nichts. so i was very happy about the mega bass in the first track fission. wow, this bass is almost as almighty as simon phillip's ones. poor neighbours.
the track "information" is my cup of tea as well. nice stupid retro melody, really sweet! a good choice of information samples, the avalanches own "information" comes to mind. cabin crew has some interesting aspects, especially the old school computer noises.
i think things getting serious with "morning", i quite like the house pianos - but to be honest, i like my pianos a bit different. the melody is okay, but the piano sound doesn't do the song enough justice. you could also say: reviewer, piano my arse! the laughters are okay really. "five" is a big mess and do i hear some steal guitars in there? a bit too harsh for me likings, but it's "just" an interlude, so i don't mind. tower block sunrise: you know my favourite tower song, do you? things kick off very nice, soft percussion without much melody - a bit too repetitive, but then again, i shouldn't complain because we have enough great songs in the roster! "the bridge" - remember that ace of base album with the same name? anyway, that guitar riff in that song could be sampled from lemon jelly's "experiment no. 6", eh? eh??! apart from that, nice morphing effects on some sounds. i don't like the song "bees", because one of these thingies hit me hard yesterday. i like the end theme of the song, which is also the introduction theme - it's nice to have it back in the end. RW1 is just some noise, can't comment on that one.
"sick", that's my profession. nice stomping beats and clap sounds, kinda industrial. old gangsters begins very quiet and the beat is very interesting, especially when the percussion sets in, kind of speed driven. interesting rantings throughout the song. nice strings at the end of the song. i dig "early". huge break beats and some wishy washy haunting melody before a vigorous guitar sets in.
"call" needs some time to develop - probably a bit too long. anyway, this song really has some plaid/trainer elements and the quiet strings are in fact gorgeous! a bit haunting, but yes, this is music that could make me sleepy - in a good way that is! and this voice in the middle reminds me of boc's devil song off geogaddi. boy, what a coincidence. my favourite song of your whole roster! dambam is strictly bongo with a few percussions. sometimes songs like this are too disturbing, they're not my favourites, but you did a good job, i suppose. i like the deep piano in "retire", this time, the continuous piano sounds good. the scattering beats are okay. PNO has a nice repetitive stupid melody but not much else. it's okay really.
all in all, it was a pleasure to listen to this. so what's the story about all this? any comments?
